Bright and proactive, Amy, our latest Scholarship recipient to graduate from the Tenancy Skills Institute, is determined to secure a new rental property for herself and her two young children. Currently couch surfing, the young family have been experiencing homelessness since January this year after their tenancy ended with no new rental property to move to.

Determined to secure a new home in the current competitive rental market, Amy’s sister recommended she undertake the Skillsets for Successful Tenancies course to strengthen her next rental application, having recently completed it herself.

“I’m hoping to secure some sort of housing so showing that I’m aware of cleaning, maintaining the yard, general budgeting. It will make my rental application look better,” she says.

Amy’s enquiry to the Tenancy Skills Institute coincided with the launch of our 2025 self-paced online course offering, including 100 Tenancy Skills Institute Scholarships being made available. She applied and was delighted to learn that she had successfully secured the scholarship, enabling her to undertake our full course for free.

Enrolling and starting the course on the same afternoon, Amy shares, “it was very easy to work through on my iPad. The interactivity worked great. I was so focused on getting it done that I completed it really quickly.

As an experienced tenant, Amy found the five modules affirmed her knowledge while giving her some new ideas, especially in approaching her rental application.

In reflecting on the benefits of this course and what it could mean for others, Amy says, “for someone who has never rented, it’s a great guide outlining where to start. Some people might sign up to a rental property they can’t afford and in the long-term will struggle with keeping their tenancy. If you were leaving school, doing this course would help you understand how not to get into that situation.”

Amy’s motivation to secure a new home for her young family as soon as possible is matched by her enthusiasm for her upcoming studies in Travel and Tourism, which is linked to a 2-year job placement in the same industry.

With such exciting education and employment opportunities on the horizon for her, we congratulate Amy on becoming our next Tenancy Skills Institute Scholarship recipient to graduate and wish her every success in securing a new rental property for her young family.
