Within a week!
Carleen’s slight apprehension in starting the Tenancy Skills Institute course, quickly disappeared once she started learning. Attending the course in person, she found “it was a good help to learn things I didn’t know”.
Developing skills that helped her understand the importance of paying rent on time, keeping the house clean and tidy, as well as the rights and responsibilities of a tenant were all essential to assisting her in moving into a tenancy following a long period of homelessness.
And to Carleen’s delight, after graduating from the Tenancy Skills Institute, she was successful in obtaining a new tenancy via the Department of Housing within a week.
“I approached it differently. I presented the Certificate and it helped me get my place. It also felt good to learn something new.
A year later, Carleen’s life looks very different. She is celebrating a year in her new home, and is continuing her love of learning as she undertakes a traineeship with Mission Australia‘s Cafe One. “I hope to work in a coffee shop closer to home once I finish the traineeship,” Carleen says.
